| 内容記述 | 本稿は、古典叙事詩を論じた執筆者の研究（『概念なしに思考する：戦語りの叙事詩の役割』、パリ、シャンピオン出版、2006 年；「語りの構造と政治的構築：創造の最中にある叙事詩」、『口承伝統』誌、2008 年1 月23 日号所収、15 頁-27 頁）に基づき、いくつかの現代の大衆作品の新たな像を提案する。過去の偉大な叙事詩（『イーリアス』、『ローランの歌』、『保元・平治物語』）は、究極的には、「叙事詩的創造」の概念を通じて定義されうる。執筆者自身が2006 年の著作において行った詳細な分析が示すのは、これらの叙事詩は、大きな社会変革の時期に生み出され、誰もが暗唱したもので、最終的に、完全に新しい社会の概念と政治的な力を創り出したということだ。現代、このような叙事詩は世界のあらゆる場所でほとんど消え去りつつある。しかし本稿で示すのは、叙事詩の本質的な特質が、少数の現代の作品によって維持されているということであり、その作品とはトルストイの『戦争と平和』やトールキンの『指輪物語』を含む。古典叙事詩において対応する作品と同様、これらの小説が我々に促すのは、概念なしに思考すること、そして語りの方法のみを使いながらそうすることなのだ。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The article builds on Goyet’s work about ancient epic (Penser sans concepts. Fonction de l’épopée guerrière, Paris, Champion, 2006; “Narrative Structure and Political Construction: The Epic at Work”,Oral Tradition 23/1 (2008), pp. 15-27) to propose a new interpretation of a number of popular modern texts. Great epics of the past (e.g., Iliad, Song of Roland, Hôgen and Heiji monogatari) can ultimately be defined through the concept of “epic work”. The detailed analysis led in Goyet’s 2006 book showed that those epics, born in times of great social change, and which everyone knew by heart, ultimately invented a completely new conception of society and political power. In the modern era, such epics have disappeared nearly everywhere in the world. However, this article shows that their essential traits have been retained by a small number of modern texts, including Tolstoy’s War and Peace and Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Like their ancient epic counterparts, these novels allow us to think without concepts, and to do so using the means of narrative only. | |||||
