| 内容記述 | 葛西善蔵は、平野謙以来、破滅型の私小説作家の代表的存在として位置づけられてきた。しかし、これは晩年の作品を中心に考察されてきた研究の偏向によるものである。「子をつれて」で文壇的地位を確立して以降の葛西の作品世界を詳細に検討していけば、自らの破滅的な人生を忠実に描くタイプの私小説に分類できない多様な世界が浮かびあがってくる。葛西を連想させる人物の登場しない作品あり、代作あり、社会主義への関心を示すものあり、女性嫌悪が描かれたものや心境小説風のものもある。何より注目されるのは、自虐的に自己を語るように見せて他者をデフォルメして描くことによって、自己を正当化し卓越化しようとする作品だろう。また、葛西は不能や肺結核などの決定的ともいえる自己表象をその場しのぎで運用する傾向もあった。こうした一貫性のない混乱した作品世界を同時代の評者は厳しく批判していた。つまり、平野らが作り出した〈私小説作家〉としての葛西善蔵は、一貫性の欠如した作品世界と同時代の厳しい評価を不可視の領域に封じ込めることによって成立したのである。そのことは〈私小説〉言説の虚構性とその基盤の不安定さを物語っている。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | Since Hirano Ken, Kasai Zenzo has been seen as a central proponent of the “I novel” in its self-destructive form. This opinion, however, is a result of a research bias that focuses mainly on the work of his later years. But a careful investigation of the work of Kasai after ko wo tsurete had established his literary reputation brings out a greatly varied literary universe that makes it impossible to classify him as a writer of the “I novelist” genre who only wrote of his own self-destruction. Critics of Kasai’s own time were in fact harshly disparaging of his inconsistent and jumbled literary universe. The establishment of the notion of Kasai Zenzo as an “I novelist” by Hirano and other literary critics is a result of ignoring the assessment of Kasai’s own contemporaries who said that his work lacked consistency. This proves the vacuity of the “I novel” hypothesis and the shaky foundation upon which it rests. | |||||||||||
