内容記述 With the progress of globalization, the number of foreigners living in Japan has been on the rise, and an increasing number of children are also coming to Japan with their parents. These children may have difficulties in their daily and school life due to their insufficient Japanese language skills for their age and may need support. Given the diversity of their backgrounds, this paper will refer to these children collectively as “children connected to foreign countries.”
In response to the increase of foreign residents, laws have been enacted and systems developed to enhance Japanese language education for foreign residents. In this context, various discussions have been held on the education of children who are connected to foreign countries. For example, it has been pointed out that not only Japanese language acquisition but also education for career development and learning of their native languages and cultures are necessary, and that it is important for schools and communities to cooperate. Therefore, in order to support these children, it is important to have a network of supporters and support groups that work together. Furthermore,
the learning support network needs to be examined from the perspective of the children. As children with diverse backgrounds who grow up in multi-lingual environments are the main learners, it is not enough to consider the network only from the perspective of the supporters.
I interviewed Ms. K, a high school student who came to Japan in her early elementary school years, and asked her to talk about her Japanese language learning and the support she received from the time she arrived in Japan until now, her thought about learning Japanese, and her self-evaluation of her Japanese language ability. As a result, it was found that Ms. K has been receiving continuous learning support since her arrival, and has gradually been growing into an autonomous learner. However, it turns out that she and her family did not actively seek out information on learning support opportunities, but rather responded to introductions and invitations from the ethnic
community and people involved in the learning support classes that she attended. In addition, the feeling that learning is “fun” and “interesting” promotes continued learning, and it is considered important to secure a place for learning that also functions as a place where children can feel the joy of learning with their peers, especially in their initial days after arriving in Japan when they tend to feel isolated.
Thus, it is necessary to examine the learning support network from the long-term perspective of supporting the continuous learning of each and every child who needs assistance. Since the analysis this time was based on only one person, I would like to continue this study through analysis of additional interviews to find what are better learning support networks.
