| 内容記述 | A chapter was a community of canons who were priests intended to officiate in public and provide pastoral care. They were especially required to live the common life in their refectory and dormitory. Because the chapters were used by the authorities both of the Church and of the outside world not only for religious but also for secular purposes, the many chapters lost their discipline and became “colleges of married canons living in their own houses”. The various undesirable effects of this drift were too serious for the reformers of the Roman Catholic Church and the pious laity to ignore. The Chapters were forced to change their way of life. Although this reform was not carried out in all of the chapters, it was a part of the wider church reforms driven by the reformers of the Roman Catholic Church, and had a great impact on the religious movements of the Middle Ages. | |||||
