| 内容記述 | This article outlines the development of Japanese studies in France from the second half of the 19th century to prior to the outbreak of World War Two, divides this development into three stages, and reveals the roles and networks of the main researchers, research institutes and academic organizations involved. Japanese studies emerged as a new branch of Oriental studies from the foundations of Indian and Chinese studies. The academic discipline and expertise therein developed gradually, and Japanese studies became established as part of “Far East” studies amid the expansion of the French colonies. After World War One, the research centers in France, the Indochina colony and Japan were linked through the foundation of institutions based on the political, governmental and business connections between Japan and France. | |||||
