| 内容記述 | 中世を代表する寺社参詣である熊野参詣は、中世前期に白河上皇が参詣したことを契機とし、貴族層を中心に急速に広まり、その後庶民層にまで広がり、室町中期に最盛期を迎える。しかし、戦国期から近世初頭（一五世紀後半〜一七世紀）にかけて、次第に参詣者が減り、停滞・衰退に向かったとされている。これまでの研究では発展期とされる中世前期に大きな関心が寄せられ、中世後期の研究は手薄である。そのため中世後期に熊野参詣が衰退する背景については、なお解明が不十分である。本稿では熊野先達に注目し、熊野参詣衰退の社会的背景を検討していく。熊野先達は、熊野御師と熊野へ参詣する檀那との間を取り持つ役割を担い、熊野参詣に不可欠の存在であり、彼らの動向が熊野参詣衰退の大きな要因と考えられる。こうした問題関心のもと、熊野御師と熊野先達との関係や、中世後期の地域社会における熊野先達の活動の変化などを検討し、熊野参詣が衰退する社会的背景の解明を試みる。Pilgrimages to Kumano greatly increased in the Early Middle Ages.And the so-called golden era is believed to have been during the Muromachi period. However, from the 15th to the late-17th century, as the number of pilgrims was gradually reduced, the number of pilgrimages to Kumano declined. Previous research into the background of the decline in pilgrimages to Kumano in the Late Middle Ages left issues unanswered. In this research, I focus on the Kumano-Sendatsu （熊野先達） and consider the social background of the decline in pilgrimages to Kumano. | |||||
