内容記述 | “Shingakuhayasomegusa” called kibyoshi, published in 1790 by Santo Kyoden was a great hit. “Good spirit” (zendama) and “evil spirit” (akudama), which the main character had expressed his heart of good and evil was with a loincloth and the letters of good and evil were put on his face.Tese were drawn as its distinctive character. The fi elds of gesaku, ukiyoe and kabuki were also affected by the “good spirit and evil spirit” which had been created by “Shingakuhayasomegusa”. This paper is to collect works drawing the “good spirit and evil spirit” which were made under the infl uence of “Shingakuhayasomegusa” and review their features by each period. It covers from Tempo era to the end of the Edo period (1830-1868). After Tempo reform the “good spirit and evil spirit” were used a lot because very few risks of being against laws. It was popular in gesaku, ukiyoe and educational stories for children. It was more like instructive for children. In the play of sugoroku the “good spirit and evil spirit” were used to teach children both good and bad. In hanjie or rebus, when it was diffi cult to express their feelings, various letters were put on the face of the character of the “good spirit and evil spirit”. In hashikae and caricature at the end of the Edo period the “good spirit and evil spirit” were used as useful signs to personify things by putting names of things on faces. Also, at the same period the bijinga were drawn along with the “good spirit and evil spirit” and an enjoyable atmosphere of red-right district. | |||||
