| 内容記述 | At many Japanese universities, students take General English Classes without placement tests. Therefore, they take classes with classmates with various proficiency levels.Most instructors choose textbooks that suit students with average level for those classes.However, this often demotivates students with higher proficiency.Thus, the purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of using a textbook that aims at students whose English proficiency level is higher than average.Participants for this study were divided into two levels:students with TOEIC scores 350-449 and those with450-550.First, according to the analysis of the students' responses to quentionnaires, both groups of students realize that understanding main ideas is more important than translating every sentence into Japanese.However, it takes more than one semester for students to realize the importance and adjust themselves to a new way of reading.Second, the questionnaires also show that preference for topics and purpose of taking reading classes are different between those two groups. | |||||
