| 内容記述 | 昔話の中で山姥は、自分の身体からさまざまな財宝などを排泄したり分泌していくらでも出せる、不思議な力をもち、また死ぬと死体からも、財宝や作物などが発生するように、物語られてきた。これは記紀に記された作物起源神話の主人公の神たちが、やはりさまざまな御馳走を、身体からいくらでも排泄したり分泌して出せた上に、死体から作物などが発生したと語られているのと似ている。殺されると死体から作物が生え出る、地母神的豊穣女神は、わが国で縄文時代の中期にはすでに信仰され、その姿を土偶や土器に表現されていた。昔話の中の山姥は、土偶や土器から窺えるこの縄文時代の地母神の性質を1さまざまな面でびっくりするほどよく受け継いでおり、古い女神が民間伝承の中で不気味な妖怪に変化したものと目せる。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | It is related in Japanese folk tales that the mountain witch has a magical power to excrete or secrete treasure as much as she wants， and that even after death foods and treasures come out from her body． The same power is attributed to the deities of food in the Japanese myths recorded in K（）jilei（『古事記』）（the Records of Ancient Matters） and〈Xihonshohi（『日本書紀』）（the Chronicles of Japan）． A mothergoddess of fertility （akind of the Mother Earth）， from whose dead body foodstuffs grew up， was believed in and represented by clay figurines and earthenwares in the Jomon period （the Japanese neolithic cultural period extending from about 8000 B．C． to about 300 B．C）． The mountain witch inherits various characteristics of this Jomon goddess of ferility， and it seems that the goddess was transfigured in folklore into a witch． | |||||
