内容記述 | The present paper examines the recent emergence of generative AI, such as ChatGPT, and its prospective impacts on language education, presenting an overview of its potential to enhance English learning and teaching methods. Despite mixed opinions in Japan regarding the use of generative AI in educational settings, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) endorses its application, suggesting a gradual shift towards accepting and integrating such technologies into the classroom. In light of this endorsement, the present paper showcases practical applications of ChatGPT through five distinct cases, highlighting its utilization for teacher tasks such as (a) translation, (b) document creation, (c) summarization, (d) evaluation, and (e) question generation. These examples illustrate the versatility and practical benefits of ChatGPT in English educational practices. Extending beyond these present applications, the paper then discusses three prospective trends in the synergy between generative AI and English education: (a) the provision of experiential learning environments, (b) personalized learning guidance, and (c) the reduction of teacher workloads. It suggests that the integration of AI tools can lead to a paradigm shift in educational values, potentially ushering in a new era of personalized, efficient, and engaging learning experiences. Considering these future developments, the paper advocates for a balanced approach to adopting these technologies, with a focus on enriching the learning environment and empowering both educators and language learners. | |||||
