| 内容記述 | 学習院大学図書館書庫には『華族会館寄贈図書目録』が眠っていた。この中の寄贈者欄に「徳川家寄附」とあるのに着目したのをきっかけとして、徳川宗家旧蔵書の学習院への伝来の経緯と、その事実が現在まで伝わらなかった理由を解明した。 華族会館は設立当初、図書館の創設を計画していた。幹事尾崎三良が勝海舟に協力を依頼し、それを受けて明治8 年7 月10 日、徳川宗家は華族会館へ和漢書約1,100 冊、洋書1,000 冊余りと2,000 円を寄附した。2 年後の明治10 年、華族会館は学習院を設立し、収集した図書のほとんどを学習院に寄贈した。そして明治16 年に学習院に建設された図書縦覧場は「縦覧場は本院の職員教師生徒及び其他華族の縦覧する処とす」と規則にあるように教師・生徒だけでなく華族のための図書館でもあった。 上記事実は『勝海舟日記』『華族会館誌』『尾崎三良自叙略伝』等、維新後100 年余を経て刊行された明治初期の記録類のなかで語られていた。蔵書伝来の経緯は当時の流動する政治状況を反映していた。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The Gakushuin University Library owns books which formerly belonged to the Tokugawa Shogunal Household. How the present author discovered this fact and why it was unknown to this day are described in this report. Kazoku Kaikan, or The Peer’s Club, established in 1874, planned to have its own library. Ozaki Saburo, the manager of the club, visited Katsu Kaishu for help. Katsu replied that he would make efforts. On 10 July 1875, his former master, Tokugawa Iesato, contributed 1100 Japanese and Chinese books, over 1000 books in Western languages, as well as 2000 yen to Kazoku Kaikan. In 1877, Kazoku Kaikan founded Gakushuin, the Peers’ School, transferred its book collection, and became Gakushuin Library client. The library collected books for teachers and students, as well as for peers, future members of the House of Peers. The author found these facts in Katsu Kaishu’s diary, published between 1972 and 1974; in Kazoku Kaikan-shi, published in 1986; and in Ozaki Saburo’s memoirs, published in 1976 and 1977. All items came out more than a century after the Meiji Restoration. The victors governed for a long time and delayed the publication of their records. During that time, with limited information, we were unable to know what took place after the Restoration. This library collection reflects various scenes of the early modern history of Japan. | |||||
