| 内容記述 | 『人間知性新論』第3 巻において、ライプニッツは「一般名辞」が言語には不可欠であるとみなしている。しかし、一般名辞が表すという語の意味の一般性はどこから得られるのか。本稿は、ライプニッツが一般名辞ないし一般性を重視する意義を明らかにすることを目的とする。まず、ロックの複合観念と名前について、およびライプニッツの観念の分類を取り上げ、論旨を比較する。ライプニッツにおける観念の明晰判明さは、名前が指示する意味内容に反映されている。次に、一般名辞と固有名詞、本質に注目し、ライプニッツにおいて固有名ではなく一般名辞が要請され、実在する一般性を表しうることを考察する。事物の本質ないし実在に基づく一般的なものをわれわれが判明に認識して言表するならば、それは実在的定義である。最後に、子どもの言語獲得の洞察から、一般性がもつ意義とは新たな種の発見や分類、そしてより正確な定義をもたらすという可能性であることが示される。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | In New Essays, Book Ⅲ, Leibniz regards general term, which is universal, as essential in languages. What is the source of such universal generality? This paper aims to clarify the importance of Leibniz’s emphasis on general term or generality. First, I deal with Leibniz’s features of ideas, comparing them with Locke’s complex ideas and names. We can see that Leibniz’s clarity and distinctness of ideas is concerned with what is indicated by names. Secondly, I consider generality as a reality, focusing on essence and general term, or proper name. According to Leibniz, if we recognize that something general is based on some essence of things or reality among things, it is described by real definition. Finally, I demonstrate that generality suggests possibilities to discover more species or classification corresponding to the natural order in this world or to define species diversity more precisely. | |||||
