There are homophonous phrases in waka poetry in which natural features and human affairs have similarities in their context besides the same sound. On the other hand, there are homophonous phrases, e. g. 'miotsukushi'（channel marker; to give one's everything）or 'fushi'（joints of reed or bamboo; lie; occasion）, in which it is hard to find any common points in their content but we can find them by examining how those phrases were used in waka poetry. We can find connections between natural features and human affairs in these phrases through the established image of natural features used in waka poems, and those connected to human affairs by association. In this thesis we investigate how two homophonous phrases 'miotsukushi' and 'fushi' were used in waka poetry and attempt to categorize what kinds of connections can exist between their two meanings （natural feature and human affairs）, then consider these connections by focusing on the associative relation with other waka phrases.
