Among them, Hayashi Razan 林羅山in particular could be said to have been an especially outstanding figure. But it was not only Razan who stood out. Hori Kyōan堀杏庵(1585─1642)was unusual in that he had connections with the authority of the Owari尾張branch of the Tokugawa徳川family and was also a physician, as well as working in close cooperation with Razan, and he made a major contribution to the thriving state of the world of Chinese studies during this period. For these reasons Kyōan, too, ought to be held in high regard. On the basis of such considerations, in this article I divide Kyōan’s career into three periods│(I) pre-service years, (II)service with the Asano浅野family, and(III) service with the Owari branch of the Tokugawa family│and summarize his life in the form of a chronological record. Worthy of particular note are his training as a physician in his younger years, his friendship with Razan, and, in period III, his growing fame as a Confucian scholar from around the age of forty when he entered service with the Owari branch of the Tokugawa family.}, pages = {79--94}, title = {堀杏庵年譜稿}, year = {2019}, yomi = {スズキ, ケンイチ} }
