| 内容記述 | 日本では、戦後社会運動の記録は公文書館等の系統的収集対象になりにくく散逸の危機が指摘されているが、海外では同様の記録が多くのアーカイブズ機関に収集されてきた。そうした内外の条件の違いを明らかにし、日本の今後に生かすための試みの第一歩として、本稿ではアメリカの事例に取り組んだ。主としてアメリカ・アーキビスト協会1974年度大会の会長演説“Archival Edge”を軸に、アメリカ・アーキビスト協会が編集・発行する専門誌The American Archivist掲載関連論文・記事を検討した結果、アメリカ社会の変動や、大学の大衆化・科目の多様化等さまざまな要因がアメリカのアーキビストたちの活動に与えた影響や、現存するコレクションが抱える問題点等が確認できた。今後はカナダ等条件の異なる国を対象に検討を続けて国際比較を可能とするとともに、日本における社会運動記録保存を考える手がかりとしたい。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | In Japan,records of social movements after WWII have rarely been systematically collected by archival institutions,and researchers lament the loss of such records.However,such records are within the mandate of many archival institutions abroad.Why is there this difference in Japan?As the first step to answer this question,this research note looks into what conditions contributed to the survival of similar records in the United States through the examination of related material published in The American Archivist,with a primary focus on the seminal presidential address at the Annual Meeting of the Society of American Archivists in 1974 by F.Gerald Ham,"Archival Edge",and the repercussions in found. We confirm that many factors,including dynamic social change from the time of the Civil Rights Movements to the Vietnam War,the massification of higher education,and the diversification of curriculum positively affected the collection activities in the United States.However,based on the ensuing discussions,this paper will also suggest that the resulting collections have problems that need to be addressed.By looking further into the practices followed by other countries,such as Canada,the author hopes to make international comparisons and find some clues as to how Japanese archivists can envision a better future for the preservation of records of social movements. | |||||
