　　　On　818　A．　D．　Saicho　decided　to　reorganize　the　Hieizαn一ブεTemple （later　known　as　EnTッαhu－jのto　become　the　only　temple　of　Mαんの碗α Buddhism　in　Japan　training　the　Bodんisαttvα　monks　as　opposed　to　the αrんα亡monks　in　monastic　Hiinのノ伽αBuddhism．　For　this　purpose　he planned　to　build　a　completely　new　sub－temple　for　the　initiation　of　the Buddhists　precepts　（Kαidαn－in）at　the　Hieizαn一ゾ’i　in　addition　to　the existing　Kαidαn－in　at　the　Todαi－j’i　Temple　of　Nara．　His　aim　was　to diminish　the　influence　of　the　Nara　Monastic　Community　over　his disciples　as　well　as　to　persuade　monks　in　Hieizαn－」’‘to　become Bodhisαttvα　monks　and　thus　effectively　free　his　order　from　influences of　Nara． 　　　By　fulfilling　his　vision，　Saicho　established　a　completely　new independent　School　of　Buddhism　in　Japan　that　was　to　become　the　most powerful　and　influential　school　of：Japanese　Buddhism　for　centuries and　therefore　it　can　be　said　he　established　the　new　form　for　Buddhism in　Heian－period　Japan．　On　the　basis　of　this　School，　various　influential
