| 内容記述 | The present paper is an attempt to examine the image of nations by means of the semantic dzfferential method developed by C． E． Osgood． To the extent to which affective meaning systems are relevant to“people’s standards for perceiving， judging and acting”， they also constitute an important part of subjective culture． Keeping this in mind， the image of nations was quantitatively measured and analyzed by means of a variation of semantic differential named、POLDI developed by the presnt investigator． Structures of semantic space in the j udging of national concepts and the affective meaning of each national concept were examined：the former， by factor analysis and the latter， by the composite score and the octant analyses， They were also compared both across different classes of subjects and through time． The image of divided nations was also examined in paired comparisons， between West and East Germanies， between South and North Koreas， and between Unified Vietnam and North Korea． Generally， the more industriaized the nations are， the more favorably they tend to be perceived． Also， the distance between the divided nations tend to be greater along the Dynamism dimension． Finally， it was concluded that the general E－P－A struture of smantic space holds universally despite differences in the sampling of concepts， scales， subjects， and the time of testing， but the affective meanings of respective national concepts are subject to change， as either the subject class or the time factor is varied， probably because the different states are present in the subjects’internal（psychological）as well as external（socio－physical）environment． | |||||
