It then delves into the utilization of educational games, addressing challenges associated with the development and implementation. Next, the focus turns to the incorporation of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (henceforth COTS) games in Digital Game-Based Language Learning (henceforth DGBLL) studies. An in-depth analysis of eleven previous DGBLL studies that investigated second language or foreign language learning by using COTS games clarifies the various methodologies and points out similarities and distinctions across studies.
