| 内容記述 | “darou” in modern Japanese has researched as one of modality by a lot of researchers including Professor Hideo Teramura. However, various theories are described, and not united in those researches then I would like to arrand “darou” again. But it is difficult to refer all the researches. Moreover, “darou” is discussed from various viewpoints,and there are some points different even if the same thing is almost described overall. Therefore, the our main one is taken up here, and it is assumed that “darou” is classified from two viewpoints “Element of the interrogative (ka)” and “Asked character” into four kinds “Guess usage”, “Confirmation usage”, “Doubt usage”, and “Euphemistic question usage”, and advances it. As an essential function of “darou” was considered based on the early research, each usage is brought together in this text as follows. The concept of the Guess usage of “darou” received theories of Satoshi kinsui (1992) and Kazuhito Miyazaki (1994, 2005) and the theory of chapter of the Japanese descriptive grammar society (2003), and captures it, saying that “It is a usage that makes a judgment about knowledge that the talker is not directly in experienced area by uncertain recognition like the idea, the imagination, and assumption, etc.” The confirmation usage of “darou” has been divided into three “Confirmation usage A”, “Confirmation usage B”, and “Confirmation usage C” by listener and talker’s volume of information. The doubt usage of “darou” has divided into two views. One is the so-called interrogative in Takurou Moriyama (1992), Tomoo Oshima (2002). Another is the idea, was proposed including Tomohiro Miyake (1992), it is not of a form that “darou” attaches to “ka” but it is becoming independent of “darouka”. Then the doubt usage of “darou” includes four usages of “Ask oneself”, “Conclusion evasion”, “Exclamation”, and “Irony” are caught in this text. A euphemistic question usage doesn’t force the response on the listener treated partially of a so-called doubt usage so far, and have the feature that it is a moderate attitude, and is used as a polite question (cf. Moriyama 1992; Miyazaki 1994, 2005; Oshima 2002; and chapter of Japanese descriptive grammar society 2003). However, “Doubt usage” doesn’t have asked character as “Euphemistic question usage” have. Therefore, it is necessary to set “Euphemistic question usage” up as the fourth usage in distinction from “Doubt usage”. | |||||
