| 内容記述 | ［Before he landed at Kagoshima（1549）in order to evangelize the Japanese people， the Jesuit Francis Xavier（150〔シ1552）had a big ptlzzle to settle：the question of transmitting the idea of 1）θ％∫into the Japanese language． Relying on the advice of Anjir6， a Japanese fugitive staying in Malacca， Xavier in the end adopted Dα勿ichi as the且rst word translating Deus into Japanese． The aim of this article is to cast light on this well－known social and linguistic event：it is a question of bringing into relief what took place in sixteenth－century Japan when attempts were made to render Western ideas that an Oriental language did not hapPen to possess， like that of Dθ％∫in the case of the Japanese Ianguage． Although the social and historical context are not identical， the end of the article re艶rs to the Chinese Rites Controversy， which seems to have something in common with the Dainichゆroblem in Japan． In conclusion， can we not see in both cases a sort of total faith by Europeans in Godls word， against which backdrop Xavier had determined to name God Dainichi before he landed in JapanP】 | |||||
