However, most of them just exploit their image, disregard their reality, and finally degenerate into a parody of the genre movies. Three documentary movies treat of this theme successfully: G. Franju’s The Blood of the Beast(1949), F. Wiseman’s Meat(1976)and N. Geyrhalter’s Our Daily Bread(2003). Franju shows his slaughter-house as a ritualistic stage where the Parisian butcher performs. Wiseman, in the huge Montfort Feedlot of Colorado, reveals the rhetoric of “meat”. Geyrhalter reveals the secret of semi-automatic slaughter-houses that have no topographical identity. These documentaries are all based on careful research and discuss the history of the slaughter-house in each period.
