The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the type of attention (selective or incidental attention) for emotional stimuli (negative or neutral words) on false memory in DRM paradigm. Participants studied negative or neutral words intentionally and incidentally both at the same time. In incidental study, false alarm rate of negative critical words was higher than neutral ones. However, in intentional study, false alarm rate of critical words was not different in two types of emotional stimuli. These results are discussed in terms of activation/monitoring theory and fuzzy trace theory.
